MySQL Error

Hi everyone,

I have a web application running on Tomcat and MySQL. I developed from home with no problems. I then transferred everything to a web server and installed the exact same versions of software (JDK, Tomcat, MySQL) that I used at home.

However, for some reason MySQL won't start the service when I go through the Instance configuration wizard. At the same time, I can still access MySQL through a command line so I was able to import the database properly.

I get the following error when I try to run a servlet that accesses the database:

com.mysql.jdbc.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure due to underlying exception: ** BEGIN NESTED EXCEPTION ** java.net.ConnectException MESSAGE: Connection refused: connect STACKTRACE: Please try again.

Any thoughts as to why this could be happening? I've checked the MySQL documentation and I cannot find a clear answer as of yet.

Have you verified that nothing else is using the port, or that the port is not blocked? The default for MySQL is 3306 I think. You may also want to verify that the port accepts TCP/IP.

Is the webserver a hosted server or under your control? I know that if you are running on a hosted server which is using the myphpadmin then in your jdbc connection url the server name has to be localhost

i.e jdbc:mysql://localhost/your_database_name?autoReconnect=true

It turns out it was the TCP/IP settings. The network admin set the MySQL instance to not have TCP/IP enabled. So I could never make a connection. After going through all of his choices in the instance wizard, I noticed the service wouldn't even start!

It all works now though, thanks to all who replied. I appreciate your help.
