what is the best database engine that can be used for mac and windows by using JDBC ?

i need it for storing images and there features ..

Welcome to JavaRanch.

Are you looking to embed a database in your application? Or do you merely want to access a database that is installed on a server from various client operating systems? If the former, have a look at Apache Derby; if the latter, just about any database will do (Postgres, MySQL, SQLServer, Derby, ...) since the database drivers for all common databases work on all operating systems.
 
Have you checked out Aspose?
