need career guidance

am a fresher and wish to work in areas of systems programming or core networking.i have heard that firms like cisco are the best inthis to get into of my friends told me that you must have a solid reference. i dont have any.

would doing certifications like CCNA etc help. i am currently placed in infy and so no experience would help

When you've no experience you shouldn't be picky about what job you accept.
Take whatever you can get and get experience, come back in 10 years to ask which company you should grant the privilege of being allowed to employ you.

Harsh? Maybe. But that's how the real world works.

Certifications are no substitute for experience. The massive number of kids right out of school who collect certifications by just cramming for them and forgetting what they crammed as soon as they have that piece of paper has removed most value they once had.

i am from india , new delhi to be precise and am placed in infy.

hi jereon , i think i need to rephrase my question. i wish to enter cisco or hughes or any other solid networking/protocol design firm in india .i am ready to study whatever it needs.
