Hello all,
I am a java developer. I passed scjp with 91% and hope to pass scbcd by next month with more than 80%. I learnt java with passion. So I have a solid background. I have good understanding of Design Patterns and OOD. I also have a good expertise on Database(Oracle).I have experience of working on a large scale web application based on spring, struts, hibernate for 13 month. So I have good experience with these and many other opensource technologies.Currently I am working on a EJB project for last 3 months. I am very confident that I can work on any technology based on JAVA.
Now, I got an offer for H1B from a firm in US. They will not charge me anything but will get 30% from my salary when I get a job in US. I have to sign a contract for 3 years.
I know many of you are experienced enough to comment on this situation. What is the possibility of me getting a decent job ? How much can I expect to get? How much is the living cost. Can I save anything after giving 30% to the agency? Please comment....

Some points to consider in no particular order:
  • 18 months of experience is not much
  • Committing yourself to 3 years with a company you seem to know very little about seems strange to me
  • Having the company take 30% out of your paycheck seems even stranger
  • Pay levels (and cost of living) vary widely across the USA. 60K USD make for a decent living in some parts, while it barely pays the bills elsewhere.
