Can anyone recommend a free EJB server. Is there a reference implementation from Sun? I would prefer one that is truely free, not a 30 day trial etc.

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
