Can anybody suggest as to which is the best book for each of these topics?

As a very beginning, the (free) developer's guide that is bundled with the j2sdkee1.2.1 is very good. It's available online here:

Also a good book, but unfortunately a few version behind, is Ed Roman's Mastering EJB. The entire book is available online (free) at: As you can see, it requires you to sign in to, but this site is excellent, so it's worth the time.

Also available is preview public review postings of the new edition of this book.
