Sun plans to Open Source java.
How is this going to effect me?
How hard will it be to get certification?
How much will I be worth as a Java programmer?

I've always been bewildered why such an importance is placed on open-sourcing Java. I expect it to have little effect on most people whose work life revolves around Java, and I sure hope that the good folks at Apache don't put any further effort into Harmony.

Um, isn't Java already open source? The language is determined by the JCP.

Do you mean they're going to make an open source JVM?

Note that, despite the sensationalist bent of this article, Sun has stated before that they were exploring the possibility of open-sourcing the JVM in the future; and that currently, all the source is freely available, just not licensed with an OSI compatible license. This is not a big deal.
