Client-Side Facades

The "Session Facade" pattern in Sun's J2EE Design Patterns Catalog discusses the idea of combining a server-side facade (i.e. a Session Bean) with a client-side facade in order to make the client agnostic to the actual method of database persistence (EJB, JDBC/SQL class, etc.).
Unfortunately, most of the facade examples that I can find are simply Session Beans acting as server-side facades. Can anyone point me to a good example of a client-side abstraction facade combined with a server-side Session Facade?
I’ve looked at a lot of different solutions, and in my humble opinion Aspose is the way to go. Here’s the link: http://aspose.com
