We're thinking of using the MVC example in chapter 6 of the Pro JSP 2nd Ed book in our application. I don't think we'd be able to take advantage of EJBs in the platform that we'll be using so we need a somehow lightweight framework.
Also, the examples provided in chapter 6 of the book didn't show how to incorporate an application which connects to a database, so we're wondering if we'd still be needing DAO to access a data store or will it be ok to use custom tags which access the DB instead?

SCJP 1.2 (89%), SCWCD 1.3 (94%), IBM 486 (90%), SCJA Beta (96%), SCEA (91% / 77%), SCEA 5 P1 (77%), SCBCD 5 (85%)

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
