Do I need the XP pro upgrade or will J2EE tutorial work OK on XP home?

I have to buy a new PC b/c I only have windows 98. I want to make sure I'm not wasting my money.

Is it just that you don't like Windows 98? J2EE, like all Java should work fine on anything from Windows 95 upwards. (95, 98, me, 2000, XP, XP pro ...)

I found xp home edition can do a lots. You will be OK.

I am receiving a lot of contradictory info.
I'm under the impression that I can't write and run J2EE applications unless I have Windows 2000 pro, Red Hat Linux 6.2 or Solaris operating systems. ( I was asking about XP b/c I thought I needed to buy a new computer - I'm hoping/assuming that later versions of these will work also).
I'm only interested in learning J2EE and going through the tutorial. According to the instructions, it can only be run the platforms listed above. I would love NOT to have to buy a new computer to learn this.

Supported Operating Systems and Required Software
This release relies on the Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition ("J2SETM"). The following table lists the required version of the J2SE for each operating system that is supported with this release of the J2EE SDK.
Operating System J2SE Version
SolarisTM SPARC 7, 8 1.3.1_02 or 1.4
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 2000 Professional 1.3.1_02 or 1.4
Linux Redhat, v. 6.2 1.3.1_02 or 1.4

Note: Version 1.2 of the J2SE will not work with this release of the J2EE SDK.

I have seen the following note on how to "try" to get it to run on 98. I'm going to try it tonight and probably for the next 3 or 4 days.

Nope, Windows XP is great for J2EE development. I'm even running the "Home Edition" and it's absolutely fine.
In fact, it even runs BEA WebLogic, etc, etc.
