hello, IBM drives me crazy. they claim to be the first to have an j2ee 1.3 application server running, but i never found a websphere application server who runs message driven beans. today i found was 5.0 is available, but i dont find it available for download (win2k). i hope i can run ejb 2.0 applications on websphere for developers, i will see. but the worst thing is that there is absolutely NO GOOD DOCUMENTATION available. That damn infoncenter doesnt help me at all. can you tell me where to get was 5.0 trial version (need it for university) and where i can find good documents about clustering J2EE applications, pooling EJBs with websphere and IBM specific extensions of the J2EE specification ? thanx in advance, max

WebSphere Technology for Developers (Still available from this page) was the first J2EE certified application server. However, WebSphere Application Server 5.0 (which includes all of the support for clustering, QoS, web services, etc.) will be released in December. In the meantime, if you purchase WebSphere Studio (WSAD) 5.0 you get a built-in copy of the beta of WebSphere Application Server 5.0. WSAD 5.0 went on sale in late September. Kyle

Yes, it is different. WebSphere Technology for Developers was an "alpha" released back this summer. The "beta" that's in WSAD was very nearly released product. Kyle

We are having the same problem too. WAS 5 beta is not available for download. WSAD 5 is not available for download yet(not even the trial version). WAS Technology for Developers is too old a release to be testing your stuff on (more than 7-8 months old). So the only choices available if you need to test your application on WAS 5 are: 1)Shell out a few thousand bucks for WSAD 5 2)Wait until Dec (or gawd knows when....IBM has already delayed the release of 5 before). This after the fact that we are an existing 4.x customer and would like to move & test our J2EE 1.3 stuff to WAS 5. IBM really drives me nuts sometimes too! WebSphere is probably the *only* appserver today which does not have a production J2EE 1.3 compliant version. So much for being the first! [ October 31, 2002: Message edited by: Junaid Bhatra ]
