I am in a quandary over few offers.
Regarding my background I have 3.5 years experience in java/j2ee and a CS degree from REC.
I have some offers in India ranging 7.5-8+ across varied cities Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore in good companies in India.

Now yesterday, I got an offer from Dubai. The job is senior developer and work involves telecom domain. They say they would pay me 7500 AED(tax free) which is equivalent to 12.5*7500 = 93000 something INR. Apart from this they will provide for shared accomdation and pick up and drop off facilities.

Is this offer worth considering? I am not aware of Mid-east or Dubai at all.
What could be the pros and cons of accepting this? At the moment I am inclined towards not accepting because the salary does not seem great to me in order for me to leave my country, parents, friends and a conformtable life.

What are your views ?

exactly if in India you are getting great salary, why to leave India.

It should be 12000 dhr per month ..then only..otherwise enjoy in india it self ..yaar

I think you have managed to get very good offers for your experience. And Dumai may not be as lucrative as you may think -- so better stay here and enjoy!

Hi guys,

Thanks for the inputs.
Now I have 2 choices.

1. In Pune - I get around 7.5L taxed with 15% variable pay.
2. In Dubai - I get 8000 AED (tax free) + shared accomodation and transportation.

All the while I was not considering the Dubai offer seriously since I was not aware of that part of the world much. Now after doing some research, I found that I would be able to save about 6000 AED per month i.e. about 8-9 L per annum more than twice what I would if I work in India. If I decide to go for earning quick money and stay there for say 1.5 -2 years. What would be the pros and cons ?

Some very intelligent western people work in UAE for money!
If someone works in UAE, it should never be a problem for visa in Europe/America.

UAE is one of the most modern nations among the Arab world.

UAE is a racist place (not Dubai)

here is the order of preference by race:

1. Arabs
2. Palestinian arabs
3. Americans(white Americans))
4. Europeans(white Europeans)
5. Australians
6. Indians/Pakistanis
7. Dark looking Indians/Pakistanis/Sri lankans
8. East Asians/ philipinos etc.

The thing about Dubai is that it is quite nearby and you could come down home as and when you want. Moreover my home town is directly linked with Sharjah via a LCA. Those are the key things that made me think in going that direction. Did you refuse the GTFS offer? what was the offer ?

I agree with you Alfred 100%. But ours is a very unstable field. You do not know what is going to happen. We earn pretty well compared to rest of Indian workers. How many people in India get salaries of 60000 rs per month when they are 25. Our lifestyle also changes. we get used to lavish living. How do you plan to sustain that in the long run in an unstable industry. You need good investments that would see you through the bad times as well as your retirement. For investments you need good amount of money. How do you earn it? I am sure you agree that inspite of great salaries in India we are not still financially sound, are we?

Sumit ,
looks like you are simply shopping companies ,your future objectives are not clear .If you simply looks money then stick what are you doing now or jump here and their .
Just take a example you have 3.5 years exp. now ,take another Sumit say Sumit B who accepts this offer and work in Dubai for 6 mo or 1 year .
After @ 2 years you and he will be of 5 years exp . Now compare your self and other guy of same exp. and age ,who will get market response ?
Those companies who are offering you now ,will give offers to other guy also and much better .
Dubai is just like Bombay with other administration , I dont prefer UAE but if it is Dubai and you are single no harm in going, if company and projects are good .Money part you can negotiate .

Regarding visa issues why you are worried about things that you don't have ?
Different ppl visit differnt places and countries have rules ,no gaurantee if you do not visit Dubai , you will get US (H1 )visa without problem
Rest is your decision .

Yea. You may be right. I do not like software development. I am not crazy about it. I will not do it in my free time or if I do not get paid for it. After XIIth I did not know what I wanted to do. Since I had very good marks, I took admission in REC computer Science because that was the top choice among everybody. Since then I did not have much choice so have been working. Tried my hand at systems programming and low level networking in the begining. After getting bored from c programming got certified and shifted to java/j2ee.

But that does not mean I am not professional. I work with full dedication and all my bosses have been relatively happy with me.
I have been lucky to get good salaries since begining and thats what has kept me going so far.

In the longer run, I want to start my own business not necessarily IT company, it can be anything: a restaurent, a small retail superstore or anything I do not know. I need some money for it.

If I am not able to do it then you are right I do not have any specific career goals related to IT. I am very good technically and I may still end up becoming an solution architect. But that is not what I always wanted to be.

sumit,

i understand you.
its good...you have a dream.

but my suggestion is : no Dubai....try US ,UK or other european countries.

wait for some more time....try and you will get it.

DONT TAKE any fast decision...take wise decision.

umm....you dont have to code when you become senior.

there are positions like : IT Analyst, System Analyst, IT architect, PM, Tech Lead etc etc.

I am digging up to leave blore....I cant adjsut with fooding .....this is my biggest problem.

Thanks for understanding. But I do not have much time. After 2-3 years I may not be able to take the same risks that I can take now. Honestly I do not want to go to outside India whether be it Dubai or US, England, or whatever but it only the quick money ...
