I desparately need some generous help from some one in preparing my resume.. I have been working in a company(last 6 months)....where i have joined in the middle of the project.....which mainly deals with jsp and servlets....with lots of screens around 50.....regarding prohect.. depending upon the privilage given to the user...adminstrator(one of the user ..) will assing some screen to the other users(users are around 11)...used frames for each screen ....and written validation for required fields..and ...also css...used ...tomcat server..and database used is...sql server with around...90 odd tables...
Now i want to keep this project in my resume....but not able to .....descripe the project welll...with effecient manner....please help me out ..for preparing me some good description about the project in the effective manner...

What I usually do is that just write 2-3 lines in the resume about the project /release work and then explain in details when I am asked about in the interview. That has usually worked for me. I've seen people writing huge project descriptions and make their resumes 4-5 pages long.
When I take interviews I do not read all those things. I usually go through the skill sets section and then ask the candidates to describe their projects.
I usually keep my resume 2 pages with brief write-ups on everything.
Description?? from the Group. But it is you who has done this project. How come other people will give the description. Think of a functional point of view and write the description.
If I have done any project then it is me who knows the project not the person living next door. Think coolly and write down what is your contribution for this project.

Hi Sumit, You were telling about resume should be 2 pages as a maximum. But what about a guy who has around 5 yrs of experience and has done 10 projects. How long should his resume be in this case??

I don't know. There is no standard as such. I'd think the smaller the better for the reader. I have 3.5 years of experience and I have also worked for 8-10 product releases. I usually detail the ones in the present company and sort of aggregate the ones in previous companies in 3-4 lines per company.
I do not know what is the best technique. But so far I have got more than 10 jobs offers since I started working and noone has ever complained about the style of my resume. So I continued with the same and looks like its good.
It really depends on where you are sending your resume. In the US a resume should be 1-2 pages (3 if you've been in the industry 15+ years or have changed jobs, or have lots of publications, etc). In India I've noticed people list out every single project and include every technology buzzword associated with the project. I can often tell if a candidate is from India simply by looking at the number of pages in the resume. Needless to say it doesn't help them get jobs n the US because
1) It shows lack of attention to detail (in this case, local standards and customs). 2) Lack of ability to succinctly communicate. 3) Resumes are typically viewed initially for 15-45 seconds each. Obviously the more pages in the resume the harder it is for the reader to pull out the information necessary to consider the candidate viable for the job.

In such a case, only include the main points of the project (technologies used, your role and any achievement). Also if 2-3 projects are related in terms of technology/role, they can be clubbed together to show as just 1 project.
Very few people reach to the 3rd page of resume, so whatever you want to highlight should be in the first half of the first page of resume.
1) Highlight the unique features of the project. Like I am a team lead and I deal with users/client manager, so I have mentioned that my current project is a very high visibility project and that the requirements are a bit volatile. This shows that I have worked under pressure and can handle the client. You have to find such points.
2) Be prepared to answer questions based on what you write.
Write two or three lines of description about project, that you can grab from the requirments. And then write about your role, responsibilities as much as possible.

Thank you guys. Thats a lot of vital information I got from this thread. My resume is around 4 pages long. I ll cut short it right away not detail everything for me as being 3.5 yrs of experience and this is my 8th project.
