EJB or not to EJB

How many here think that EJBs are unnecessary for most applications.
Plain servlets with better division of work is all that is needed for most apps.
EJBs are too costly to write, maintain and
host (appservers).
Microsoft .net does not have a specific server side component like ejb.

not sure about this one... but what about COM?
