Hi All, We are developing a J2EE project. In our system we have to interact with the Mainframe system and it has been decided the data communication between the application server and Mainframe is through XML. Can you suggest a good framework for this kind of requirement? Any help would be appreciated.
What is your mainframe OS and language? In my shop "mainframe" means IBM, CICS, COBOL. XML is not a real natural fit for COBOL, but I hear there is a parser that can be called from COBOL. Haven't seen it, but I'd bet it will use lots of address fields which can be a challenge for COBOL developers who haven't been exposed to more dynamic languages. We do MQ-Series to CICS, and the COBOL programs just use ordinary copy books with fixed length fields. We have some meta-data based middleware that maps the fixed length fields to Forte 4GL and some code generated middleware for fixed length to Java. You might shop for middleware that will do all the Java / XML / Copybook conversions for you. IBM has a whole connector framework with natural support for their own mainframes, and Attachmate sends me literature about their products all the time.
