Intermittent problem

We are using the MVC pattern - using jsp,session bean and entity beans. The session bean encountered intermitted mutation. There was a stackoverflowerror encountered at the same time. Could a stackoverflow cause intermittent corruption of data handled by the session bean.
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
