Submitting additional information during authentication?

I have form authentication working. In my deployment descriptor, I have the following along with the appropriate html files that describe the form submit to 'j_security_check' and acquire values for 'j_username' and 'j_password'.
<login-config>
<auth-method>FORM</auth-method>
<form-login-config>
<form-login-page>/login.html</form-login-page>
<form-error-page>/denied.html</form-error-page>
</form-login-config>
</login-config>

I need to acquire another value on the login page (e.g., the role that the user wants to assume). Can I do this or is the login page restricted to only acquiring the username and password fields? I've tried placing other form fields in the html and using request.getParameter() to obtain my value but I'm not having much luck.
Thanks!!! Kelly

I’ve looked at a lot of different solutions, and in my humble opinion Aspose is the way to go. Here’s the link: http://aspose.com
