Data transfer b/w Biz tier and Database tier

Hi,
I use WSAD to develop j2ee applications.
I am having three modules in the EAR file : Web, Biz(session,util etc) and Database (Entity beans & DAO's). Now I am unable to decide whether to send a Data Transfer Object (VO) or a set of parameters between the biz tier and database tier.
If we choose a VO, then the EAR file is ending up with a cycle of dependencies (as vo is in biz tier, database tier depends on biz tier and obviously biz tier should depend on database tier).
If we choose to send a set of parameters, and if there are 30-50 parameters then I dont know if it is the right way to proceed as I think it creates performance issues.
It will be of a great help if anyone can help in this issue.
