Hi
You are correct
A servlet container is a containers of a J2ee Application Server , Tomcat for example is a servlet container as you mentioned and Jboss which use tomcat as its servlet container is a J2ss Application server which can contain both web components jsp/servlet via tomcat (in past it used jetty i do not know if it has the option yet or not) and serving EJBs with its ejb container.

tere are several jsp/servlet container and EJB container around.
BEA weblogic : Application server (both jsp and ejb)
IBM webSphere :Application server (both jsp and ejb)
JonAs : use jetty or tomcat as web and has ejb container too.

The list goes to dozen of severs.
If you has more specefic question then go on.
