Hi,
I was wondering what books to buy that will be good to learn about J2EE.

I got a good background in JSPs and Struts, but how what to learn more about the "back- end" I would like a practical book(s) that teaches the technology and gives practical examples. i also what to learn about the free tools such as jboss etc.

i saw a book
J2EE Open Source Toolkit : Building an Enterprise Platform with Open Source Tools (Java Open Source Library) (Paperback)
by John T. Bell, James Lambros, Stan Ng

but not sure how good it is.

Please recommend appropriate books

Well, dig around on Amazon until you find a book that you like the sounds of, one that fits your personal style: J2EE Open Source Toolkit : Building an Enterprise Platform with Open Source Tools. See if you can find some sample chapters on the publishers web-site.

I'm personally inclined to give Richard Monson-Haefel's Enterprise Java Beans 4e a go (more info here with sample chapters), which includes workbook sections for JBoss.

Other's like Ed Roman's Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans 3e, which is available on The Server Side as a PDF.
