Hi,
Here is a special case scenario. One of my friends need to shift from a completely non IT related field into IT.
His current studies is in the domain of Law and he is still completing his graduation. I know that this is very possible. What are further study options in India to qualify as a future software engineer? I do know a few options but would appreciate further feedback from you people.

Please mention some Post graduation options currently available in India.

I hope our ranch community can help him pursue the right career.
[Please reply with serious suggestions only!]

Thanks!
Rohit

MBT/Tech-Mahindra is now encouraging shift from non-IT fields to IT field (when requirement is high, these companies do anything) and conducting interview for such people. Maybe he can try there...and they'd provide necessary training I believe.

He can opt for MBA(IT, Systems) from premier institute. I guess Symboisis recently introduced MBA-IT. I feel that will best option to enter into IT.

Today I had seen Tech-Mahindra advertisement in Times of India, they are inviting BA, BCom and non IT related graduates.

OK.. that is great news.
But I am thinking it would be nice for him to get the graduation degree/diploma first in IT as a post graduation as most organizations still have this as the primary eligibility criteria and such opportunities are really rare as we know.
I think he should be suggested to do some kind of a Post graduation in IT. I am not sure if any kind of diploma would help like PGDIT. Any ideas regarding the same?
Also I am thinking of the option to do MCA or some equivalent.

[Please Note: He has completed 10+2 with mathematics as a subject so he should be eligible for admissions to PG programs in IT. He had to move into Law (LLB) due to financial problems. Has to start applying soon for Post graduation.]

So any help would be appreciated.

Thanking in advance!
Rohit

As for PG, MBA(System/IT) or MCM could be better options. MCA is good - but takes 3 years as compared to 2 years of MBA or MCM - and education is getting too expensive these days!

Hi KJ Reddy,
Thanks for the information. I will surely check it up.
Manish,
That is some valuable information.
I will see here in Pune we have institutes like Symbiosis which are good options but are highly competitive for admission process. Will look into this as well as some more institutes for the couses you mentioned namely MBA (IT) and MCM.
Interesting to know that they are 2 years as compared to MCA 3 yrs!
That is good information.

Thanks!
