I have never used rss - I don't know why .... but I think it is really cool that we have it! It seems lots of folks are interested in that sort of thing. So kudos to Jim and Ulf! (did anybody else chip in on this?)
Thanks to Ulf and Jim for their efforts !! Nice to see a mordern Ranch !!
How about a single integrated feed for the entire saloon ?

That might cause a bandwidth problem due to the way we publish. Right now, as soon as a new thread is created, it is published to the appropriate feed. If we were to do this for a general feed, that would be updated maybe 100 or 150 times a day. If someone (as surprisingly many people do, I don't know why) sets their feed reader to refresh every 15 minutes or so, that might result in downloads of up to 20MB per day for that one user alone. Now multiply that by the number of users who might be interested in this and we'd have real problems. We could publish less often, but we're not convinced that it's worth the extra effort.
And anyway, we've only turned on feeds for all the forums today, and will now be monitoring the situation to see what happens. [ May 16, 2007: Message edited by: Ulf Dittmer ]
Not as far as I can see. The footprint of the servlet running the RSS feed seems negligible. When things do slow down, it seems to be because there are a lot of people loading new topic pages through the main saloon. As usual.

Blasting out the rss feeds is very nice.
I saw ya'll had 4 or 5 done, and I am thinking: can't they script the addition of other forums?
Apparently wrong.
Good job.

I just wanted to bring this observation to people's attention.
Anyways the freed logo before the forum name is looking cool and symmetric.
I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
