I am new to EJB and i am creating a sample applicaton using CMP. During the CMP creation using WSAD. Its creating a static final variable called "serialVersionUID" and assiging it a default value.

What is this "serialVersionUID"? What is its significance and when it is used?

I had done some R&D on this i think its used for serailization.
Can any body explain me when it is used and why it is used?

With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
