Yeap you can multiple WARs or JARs in a single EAR.

Advantages - it's one deployable unit, you can take advantage of local interfaces and local JNDI scope between the web and ejb tiers.

Disadvantages - non that I've come across

What do you mean by sharing data?

Can WARs inside EAR share the memory area assigned by app server because context is allocated per WAR and not to EAR and if such WARs are inside EAR then can we share context area of multiple WARs? If so can anybody pls let me know how to achive it? As then perhaps we can use that context area to share the data also?
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
