Are the desgin patterns in EJB powerful than other design patterns ?

No.
They are specific patterns for the EJB domain.
They give possible solutions for common EJB issues.

For EJB 3.0 some of the J2EE design patterns like DTO (Data transfer object) can be thrown away

Design pattern is not specific to perticular technology... its an effective solution for a problem
