Using Seam in conjunction with Tomcat en JSF

I've read and heard that Seam solves problems concerning JSF, but can this framework be used with Tomcat and web services.

What are in short the differences between Seam and the Spring-framework. I'm currently investigating the use of the Spring-framework for my applications. Why should I use Seam instead of Spring.

Yes, Seam works in plain Tomcat.

Seam versus Spring:

* Seam can use Spring beans but Spring cannot use Seam beans

* Seam is annotation driven while Spring gives you XML hell ...

* Seam deeply integrate more than a dozen leading open source frameworks in a consistent annotation-driven programming model. Spring "integrates" stuff by providing simple factory methods and templates via dependency injection.

* The hallmark of Spring is dependency injection while Seam has dependency bi-jection (outjection and injection)

* Seam has Ajax built-in

* Seam has great tools from commandline ANT to Eclipse / NetBeans. Drag and drop development

* According to Hibernate inventor Gavin King, Seam is the correct way to use Hibernate since it has a stateful context as opposed to Spring's stateless design

* and much more ...

Dear Michael Yuan,

Thanks for your answer. I'll try some sample applications with Seam and Tomcat.

An another question. I'm currently testing Apache Axis for webservices.

Could Seam support Webservices??

Seam allows you to use EJB3 web services. So, the web services piece would not work in plain Tomcat ... Maybe in the future we will integration the apache WS stack. But for now, this is Java EE 5 only.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
