how to edit the users/entries in LDAP

I am trying to perform operations like add, delete , modify ,search in LDAP
Can anybody tell me how to perform the edit operation. I have performed addition and deleteion , but somehow edit is not working

using JNDI API i want to perform edit operation, but i don't know the function for it
