i am developing an intranet.but i dont have much idea hoe to make a search engine for it which should work independently (i.e. the intranet will not be connected to the intranet. thanking u beforehand. -mranj
What kind of search engine do u want to make?? Is it data base driven search engine? or a meta search engine? If its a data base search engine, u just need to write a SQL query to get the data and show it to the user ... If u want to search through the documents that u have on your intranet, its better to use already available search engines. May be u can try FrontPage Extensions, which has one search engine utility ... ------------------
If you have $$$, you can buy a commercial search engine - Ultraseek and Alta-Vista are ones we recently checked into. Alternatively, there are some document management based packages that you can use to drive your intranet and they include search, version control, workflow, etc. For a simple database search engine, java / jdbc / jsp works great - but for an intranet - you'll probably want to look at search engines that do full text indexes of your documents.
