Do people here at Java ranch know/work with companies in Hyderabad which let the employees to work from home ? I have come across one such company where the managers don't mind whether you work from office or home. They are simply interested in quality work.

If its against the policy to list the companies that have work-from-home provision, you need not name them down. But I would like to hear more from people who are employed with companies and work from home.

Hi Santosh,

Altest once a week you may have to come to office.

Thanks and Regards

Thanks man. Once or twice a week is no problem but do you have to tell the HR during interview that you plan to work from home ?

Working from home also depends on type of project. In 24x7 kind of projects, companies allow employees to work from home by providing them laptop and broadband connection. If project phase is design, development, coding they will ask you to come to office. My experience is 'working from home' is good if you are administrator or on working on support, enhancement project.

It's not up to you whether you work from home. It's up to the company to allow that.

Yes I understand that. My question is whether the project manager is the right person or the HR ? and when the question should be raised before thr interview i.e. during scheduling or during the interview ?

Well, it might be both. You would certainly have to have your manager's approval for you to work from home, of course. But it's also possible the HR department might have some policies related to working from home. Normally the manager would discuss those policies with HR before approving, it shouldn't be up to you do that.

And yes, if it's important to you to work from home then you should bring it up in the interview.
