You must ask for the Job Description. Consultant is a very vague term which gives you no information.

Even with a job description, the details can be very broad. If by consultant, you are in the professional services dept, you are customer facing. If the product is very technical, and/or requires tight integration, it will be whatever it takes, with whatever environment encountered at the site.

Kanbay (now part of Cap Gemini), for example, offers the title of Associate Consultant to freshers from engineering colleges. Atleast it did when recruiting in 2006.
