Can we serialize a Java object via XML?

I'm not clear on what you mean. Do you mean take a data object (i.e. java bean) and have it's data translated into an XML Document (which can then be written to disk)? If so, look at the early access JAXB from Sun (I know this goes the other direction xml -> java bean) or Castor. These might be helpful.
