I use this to open help the document in Word or Acrobat,
Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
Process process = runtime.exec("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler " +
getHelpDocURL());

Another way to call dll using java than you can also use -
System.loadLibrary("hello");
run hello.dll
