Hi All,

I have seen many posts in this forum like people switching from one technology to another technology..How do you do that?

I am working for a 2$bn company in india(dont want to reveal the company name)..I joined this company as a fresher..so they put me into testing which i am not interested. So i asked my manager to shift me into JAVA but he said it takes two years to shift to JAVA....

I am wondering how you people jump from one technology to other technology..Because recently i have applied for few jobs with testing as experience but they are not considering...

So should i continue in testing only for life long(i am not sure whether my manager will move me into java or not???)...

After getting two years experience in testing if i apply like 2 years experience in java??? Is that a wrong step(Means i will be fired for producing fake project experience...)

Please answer all my questions...

In one line how do you change from one technology to another technology(with out effecting background verification)

"Ramesh",

Welcome to JavaRanch. Please look carefully at the official naming policy at JavaRanch & reregister yourself with a proper first & last name, with a space between them. Initials may be used for a first name, but not a last name. Please adhere to official naming policy & help maintain the decorum of the forum. Without understanding fully what you're asking... I can't really give you a meaningful answer at least from where I'm sitting.

I do, at least, understand what the last bit is about.

The easy answer is - learn it on your own time, find ways to apply it or to get your current employer to find value in what you're learning, and then use that as a means to leverage into a new job. That's the only way to do it without possible negative repercussions (because if India's job market is anything like the US, you can be fired for lying about experience).

Please answer by considering Indian market..

Hi Sudhakar,

I suggest you lear Java on your own or join small institute for Java coaching. Your testing experience will surely add value to your career.
If you have the will, believe me nothing is impossible.

1) Buy Head First Java, master core java skills.
2) Complete Java certification SCJP, it helps your resume to stand out.
3) Try to do small project on java.

All the best !!!

Regards
Ayub

Hi Ayub..

Thanks for your reply...When i hear this type of words that i will get JAVA..I am delighted than anything in this world...

By the way i successfully completed SCJP with 77% and planning for SCWCD..

But only thing which is bothering me is suppose i will complete SCWCD also how to switch to JAVA under the conditions that my present company chances are null.

Thanks and Regards,
Hoping to be in Java by the end of 2008.

Hi,

If you are confident about programming in Java you may ask developers are your close friends in your team and set up the enviroment similar to the Development and start lerning the project.

That will help you to know the architecture and put in your resume. I dont think doing certification will help you to fetch a job if you are going for 1+ experience.
