Hi All,

I have one and half years experience in testing and i am very much interested in JAVA and i completed SCJP 5.0 also...I am really dissatisfied with my work so i am planning to switch to other job..

So how should i keep my resume in JOb portals:
1)should i keep as 1.5 years in Testing and looking for java
or
2)As a fresher
or
3)a fake experience with 1.5 years experience in java

The reasons which forced me to join testing
As a fresher i attended off campus for a big company(45,000 employees+ 2 billion $ company + CMM level 5)and i got selected and i was so happy that as a fresher i got selected in such a big company...But on 2nd week after my joining date they told me that i have to do testing at that time only i asked my manager to change my role at that time he said first you work for atleast 6 months as a tester and then i will move you to in to dev...But that did not happen and in the mean time i completed SCJP 5.0 so this time i approached him and asked about dev then he said no it cannot happen becuase if we go on changing peoples role every one will ask...So you continue for one and half year more and then we can think about dev...

So all this time i was with the company thinking that big company...

So what should i do???

Can anybody suggest some good institute so that they assist in placements after completeing the course...

Like Maples for mainframes...

I want java institute

The unfortunate thing in my life is with me around 180 members got selected for that company and only 8 members were given testing and i was one of them... Dont think that my academics are low i have above 75% in 10th,inter,B.TECH

I got 97 percentile in GATE-2006 also..

People sorry for such a long post..I want your invaluable suggestions...

Waiting for your reply..

Thanks & Regards,
Ramesh Ale

I suspect your lack of responses is due to the possibility of a lack of ethics on your part. NEVER LIE ON YOUR RESUME!

List your experience as it is.

Sometime people do leave jobs off, although give that you have only 1.5 years of experience if you leave it off I suspect you will be asked what you have been doing for the past 1.5 years and since you SHOULD NOT LIE you will tell them testing anyway.

Hi Mark Herschberg

I just listed out that these are the available options for me as of now. But i really did not mention any false information in my resume..But i am getting calls for testing only..In the recent interview i had faced i told the interviewer that i am looking for JAVA. then he said if you are looking for JAVA then you should have experience in JAVA..
If any body had faced same challenge please post you experience

Thanks & Regards,

What are you doing to gain experience? Which open source projects can you point to that you have contributed to?

If I were you, my choice will be 1. Here are some tips

-- NEVER LIE but you can de-emphasize on weakness and emphasize on strengths
-- Have an objective section and clearly state your intention to transition something like

"I am changing careers from testing to Java/JEE based software development and it is my passion in Java/JEE sustains me in this transition. I have gained SCJP and also gained hands on experience through self-taught and opensource projects etc ........................"

-- Write a CV that highlights your achievements, skills and experience to date.

Good luck.
