I feel like my 4.5 years of work experience as a Java Programmer is a waste because there seems to be no value for it. Everyone is asking for J2ee. Just because I had no prior experience in J2ee I become ineligible to apply. How else can I enter into J2ee? Does working with Sun Application Server on my laptop going through some tutorials count? How can I project it as an experience?
Also I'm interested in applying for H1B. Do Java,C++ programmers get H1B jobs?

Work on some tutorials and then build a demo project using current and sought after frameworks like JSF, Spring, Hibernate etc. I have some tutorials based on Tomcat at my home site. You can also google for "JBoss tutorials". I used these tutorials a while back and they can be quite useful.

Hello,

developing a demo app makes a lot of sense to me, but the best way to demonstrate skills to most potential employers in Europa is to get certified. Get 2 or 3 developer certificates and the SCEA 5.0 after you made great progress in the tutorial. Potential employers often don't take the time to review a demo app to see if it is good.

I recommend the Sun Java EE tutorial.

It's "Java EE" now, not "J2EE".
