We have currently some batch jobs running as stored procedures and are located in the database. How good is an idea to convert these stored procedures as scheduler tasks written in java and deployed on the application server? Will the app server be loaded if these scheduled java tasks run 24hrs?

We run our batch processes with Flux. Do you have the budget to use a job scheduler product? I don't know if there are good open-source schedulers.

You can write a simple one in Java pretty easily, but making it really robust, handling errors, restarts, etc would be a lot of work.

try Quartz job schedular.

Quartz is an open source job scheduling system that can be integrated with, or used along side virtually any J2EE or J2SE application

It is a fully featured, free-for-commercial-use, enterprise-class job scheduler.
