This week's book giveaway is in the Agile and other Processes forum. We're giving away four copies of The Mikado Method and have Ola Ellnestam and Daniel Brolund on-line! See this thread for details.
Hello!, Just wondering if it would be nice to have an interface giving details of ranchers location(Ofcourse, with permission of individual ranchers) so that a meetup can be organised. I live in Hyderabad so if I find that there are a few people I could meet up once in the month to talk about various things like WebDesign, Design principles, etc. It would be fun to share knowledge. There is one such meetup group(meetup.com or something likethat) i know exists in Singapore, for anything, including running, fittness, web-design, linux. Members organize a meetup date in a park or hotel and just talk about various subjects. I did that once and was fun!
meetup.com is actually pretty useful. I use it to attend the NYC tech meetups once in a while. A couple of concerns though, if you are considering starting your own meetup group...
- Make sure that you have the location mentioned in the group. Location is important with meetups. - Make sure that you do *not* have JavaRanch (and any variant of it) as the name of the meetup group. The owner of this site, paid much $$$ to own and maintain the site, and take copyright violations very seriously.
Almost forgot to mention... The "event" forum on the JavaRanch, is specifically for the announcements of events, which can be used to announce meetup groups date and locations.
Once you have a meetup setup, you should consider using that forum to announce it.

Henry, If my intention was that then I wouldnt post it here would I?
- All I wanted was Javaranch add an addtional page to indicate Ranchers location. We can use Javaranch site to discuss the agenda and may be talk about the meeting!

or search ranchers by Location ? and then email all by location ?

I didn't think that it was your intention was to violate copyright. It is just that it is common issue (to have study groups names picked with "javaranch"), that causes aggravation to both sides.
I was trying just trying to warn about a common mistake, not to imply copyright or insult you.

While we could collect more (optional) data about Ranchers in their profile, and use that in various ways, the current software really isn't amenable to changes. So anything like this will have to wait for the NewForumSoftware, whenever that arrives.
