I am handling a Swing Application in java 1.3.1
Now if i upgrade the java version to 1.4.2 then, will there be any Problems ? And also can it be possible to improve the performance of the application if the java version is upgraded.

I just want an overall idea based on your Experience....

1.4.2 has been through a number of bug fix cycles, so I wouldn't expect any problems that 1.3.1 didn't also have.
Suns release notes for the JDK are pretty extensive, and they generally mention in which areas of the API performance improvements have been made (or whether there was a general speedup in the JVM or JIT).
