Hi All!

Is there some Java API available via which i can access Microsoft VSS.

I think VSS can also be run on the commandline, so you might have to JNI into their commandline executable features.

You could have a look at Ant's tasks in org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.optional.vss

I have not looked much, but it seems that they are launching VSS via ss.exe

The whole idea with Java is that you shouldn't write your code against a specific computer system. Because if you do, it becomes system specific, and you could as well use something else than Java.

VSS is a version control system but it's not one that anybody serious about source code management should be using. Microsoft is serious about managing its own source code. They use a very excellent tool called Perforce. IMO use CVS or Perforce and stay far, far, far away from VSS, PVCS and Subversion. SCCS and RCS are fine, too. TLIB is also not bad.
 
Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
