One focus of Dolphin is supposed to be its support for other languages such as JRuby and VB Semplice.

I heard alot about this during May and June of last year and since then things have quieted down alot.

Is project Semplice still on track??? Will JDK 7 have a VB Compiler in it???

All news about JDK 7 can be found here. Looking at the documentation currently available for the scripting component, it looks very much at an early stage.

Thank you for your reply Paul,

I have seen that site, but it doesn't mention the new language features currently being considered for JDK 7, but only bug fixes and enhancements.

More specifically does anyone know if JDK 7 will have a compiler for VB source code into java byte code???

There was alot of announcements on this last summer and suddenly things have become quiet. I find this development interesting, although I do dislike VB personally.

JDK 6 has just been released, work on JDK 7 is only in the early stages (it's only at build 6 currently), so it isn't surprising that there's no fixed list yet of what's going to be new in JDK 7. I don't know but I just don't believe that a VB-to-Java-bytecode compiler is going to be included in JDK 7.

If you want to follow what's happening in the development of JDK 7 then have a look at the OpenJDK Community website.
