USB interactivity with Java!!??

I'd like to know if it is possible to interact with external devices connected to a USB acknowledge a connection(say for a webcam) and then use some interfaces to view the webcam.

Please help me out here...Thanks.

There are libraries like jUSB which you can use to communicate with USB devices from Java. However, using a webcam involves much more than just connecting to it over USB.

If you specifically want to use a webcam from Java, search for "java webcam" or similar terms on Google. Maybe something like jGrabber is useful?

Doesn\'t java sdk\'s come with those kind of libraries for controlling the usb\'s?? I think its really essential that those kind of libraries are bundled with sdk\'s, especially at this age where we can connect almost any devices through a usb port...Don\'t you think??

I don't think it needs to be in the JDK. If libraries like the one Jesper mentioned are available, and can be shipped with an application that needs it, that should be sufficient. IMO, way too many APIs are part of the JDK already, and I don't see many Java applications that might use USB.
