I'm creating a Card Game using Swing. As it is right now, the Playing Field is a JLabel and I have my mouse events listening on the JLabel for changes etc. But I know that a JLabel is not a good one to use. Does anyone know of a component that I should use instead?

What makes you say that a JLabel isn't a good idea here?..

Well, I thought it was the JLabel that was causing me problems. Maybe not. The problem is when I lay other components on top of the label, they lay strange. For instance, when I place a card on the label and then place another card, it puts the second one behind the first one instead of on top. Maybe just a programming error??
