Hi,

How much GBP(per annum) would be good enough to have decent life and savings in London. I would be staying with my family.

I am having around 5+ years of java/j2ee experiance. I am expecting salary of 34K GBP in some company in canary wharf, is this good amount? please advice.

Thanks in advance

I'm not near London but I don't think 34000 with 5 years' experience is at all good.

For 5 years anything less than 45k Pounds is lower... 45K is just sufficient... technology guys in investment banks with 5 years make from around 58K pounds onwards from the lower side

I don't think 35K is suffiecient if you are staying and working in London, an apartment will cost you around 800 to 1000 pounds, average electricity and water bill comes around 80-160 pounds , plus your own expenses, after tax what you will get is around 2000 pounds monthly. You will not be able to save enough

It's somewhere between 40,000 and 750,000 pounds.

In truth this is a useless question. There are people who would be happy living on 40,000 and others who would feel anything less than 500,000 would curtail their lifestyle.

Since we aren't you we have no idea what you care about--do you need a 2 bedroom or is anything less than 5 bedrooms uncivilized? Is a night out drinks at the put or dinner and the theater? Is a 3 day weekend spent in Bath or in St. Barts?

If you want a meaningful answer a a meaningful question. We can't guess your lifestyle. Rather say "I want to life the following life... how much will this cost?"
