I am having 4 yrs of exp in Java, J2EE, struts, spring and hibernate in a service based company. I worked all the 4 yrs on web applications. i got 2 offers. one from a famous telecom company and the work involves in enhancement/maitenance of enterprise applications using struts, spring, hibernate and web services. Other is in a gaming company which develops games in social network sites, in this the work involves server side JAVA using spring hibenate,ANT etc.The gaming company is offering 20% more pay than telecom company
which one is better for my career?. If i work in gaming company will my area of work becomes narrow?( I mean will i have more opportunies when i want to shift from this company after 2 years ).

Would like to ask in which domain you've worked with primarily in your 4 yrs experience?

If there's not been a particular domain, it's high time you attach utmost importance to it and going by that criteria off course telecom domain (my guess is the work will be in billing related applications and the company would likely be a mid to large size one) would be comparatively more beneficial than gaming but still even telecom is not the most sought after domain there is.

Try to scout for jobs in finance domain if you can or opt for telecom company's offer if you must change the job now.

Gaming company is also likely to be smaller in size and more prone to market fluctuations thereby likely making the job less stable.

If you are in a large size services company, why not ask for onsite opportunities in your current company itself and gaining an invaluable exposure with a prominent client abroad? You can always leave the job there no

I suggest go for telecom company job. Even though the work involves enhancement/maintenance, you can learn lot of things by going thru existing code, architecture etc., As Sunit Gupta said, the gaming domain is more prone to market fluctuations compare to telecom.

Good Luck

Even I was with a gaming domain company and as the previous post says, this domain is highly dynamic so better opt for the Telecom domain.

Are you talking abt Hyd based gaming company? One of my frd was wrking in gaming domain & was paid higher than market rate, but when gaming market went down (as its highly volatile n depends on lots of fators) he was sacked.

I will suggest you to go for Telecom domain.

You are assuming that the telecom market will never get you down.

What do you like doing better ? Do you like to make games ? Have you ever made one ? Do you like to learn the telecom business, how they track calls, bills etc ? It really depends on your interest and how well these markets work out for you at the moment.

In my opinion gaming domain is more fluctuating compare to other domains. At least that is what happening in India. Some of my friends who are working in gaming companies changing their jobs very frequently as they told that if one project is over it takes long time to get another project. They feel very in secured while waiting for another project. Most of my friends are into graphics and animation but from them I understood that even software developers situation is not better than them.

Please use real words and proper grammar when posting, as explained here. (Common acronyms such as IMHO, BTW, TIA, etc. are fine.) We have lots of other useful tips for asking questions on JavaRanch as well.
