Dear friends,

I have just joined this forum and this is my first question. Please parden me if it sounds too trivial. I am a engineering fresher (will be passing out in may 2009).I already started preparing for SCJP and will be taking my first attempt in next couple of months. My question is regarding jobs. I would like to know if my chances of getting a good IT job would improve after getting the SCJP certification.

Could any of you please throw some light on this front and guide me?

Thanks in advance for all your replies/suggestions.

Cheers!
Abhi

As a fresher having an SCJP will certainly boost your chances of a job. Go for it!

For a fresher SCJP is good , If company has requirement for freshers then definitely you will preferred over others...again you need to prepare for interview too and should do the interview well..all the best

In addition, write an effective resume. You will be surprised how big a difference a well written resume can make.

Brother, so glad to see you preparing for SCJP
It is a proud certification for a java greenhorn.
Go for the kill.
I have two advice for you.
1. Dont just by-heart the answers or read dumbs just for the sake of writing the exam.
2. You should possess enough skill if you hold an SCJP.

Summary: You might get tough questions in interviews if you have a SCJP by your name.

Certfication is good for beginners, but don't get obsessed with piling up your certfications one after the other. There are other avenues where you can stand-out from others apart from certifications alone. Employers are looking for well rounded candidates. There are so much to learn in Java/JEE and gaining hands-on experience along with learning the fundamentals is the way to go.
