You have to include a JDesktopPane in your Frame. The JDesktopPane is able to deal with JInternalFrames, which you can add to it.
You should try to make all functions like cascading with a DesktopManager.
If you want to know more, please have a look to the Swing Tutorial from Sun. You will also find some good information in the API.
