I ran into a problem that if I set my TextArea non-editable, I can't change its background color or font, -- before or after I set it as non-editable. I can't use JTextArea because my boss thinks Swing components use too much memory. Did anybody run into the same TextArea problem as me before and is there any solution? I am using JRE1.2.2
Thanks a lot!

Could you paste some code on how you are trying to change the font and the background?
this works for me (jdk 1.4.1).

you (and your boss) should think about using 1.4.1. Swing is a lot faster in this current release and several known bugs are fixed.

It turned out that Sun fixed it in JRE1.3.1_XX and I was using JRE1.3.0.
Thanks!
