Basically, someone becomes a sheriff when the owner of this site, or his duly appointed representatives, decide two things. 1) that we need another sheriff, and 2) someone has shown that they're basically doing that job already
by that, i mean they help others, they're nice, they don't cause trouble, they gently remind people to follow the rules.
what's interesting is that you don't have to know a thing about Java to be a bartender or sheriff!!!
