Big Moose Saloon now on new hardware - may still see some problems

Due to a sudden hardware failure this morning, we were forced to migrate the Big Moose Saloon to our brand new server a bit earlier than planned. We're back - but you may see some miscellaneous errors or inconsistencies as we run some cleanup scripts. You probably don't need to report these, as they're being worked on. But we figured you'd all prefer to see our mostly-working forums now, and we'll continue to clean things up a bit. Thanks for your patience.

And big thanks are due to Paul Little of Evolution Hosting, who spent much of today dealing with the fallout of this hardware failur. Thanks, Paul!

Thank you Paul, Jim, Ernest and the crew that did this today!

The new ranch is nice and speedy.

Also, thanks again to the many generous donors from our last fundraiser, including JetBrains (makers of IntelliJ IDEA) who paid for more than half, and all the publishers who contributed books. You all are why we had a nice shiny new machine to move to today.

Note: the search page and my posts page will not show any results from after the switchover, until we complete some more work in the next few days. Or you may get some partial or erroneous results. But at least you can find most/all of the old posts.

Also, any changes you make to the FAQ in the next few days may get lost. Or not. We'll try to get hold of the most up-to-date data, but no promises. Everything from before today will be there though.

Thanks for your patience.

I just grabbed a copy of all the latest content, and will do so periodically until the move is over, so that I can reconcile any differences there may be.

I simply cannot believe how fast and responsive the Ranch is this morning! Much thanks to all that made this happen -- including the host and the staff, and all who contributed to the fundraiser. You all rock!
