Chapter 10 is about the org.eclipse.swt.graphics package. How extensive is this package compared to AWT's graphics and are there equevillents to the Graphics2D API in SWT or is the Sun's Graphics2D just used when needed.

SWT's graphic classes honestly pale in comparison to Java2D (e.g. no rotation or anti-aliased rendering). In this area, SWT shows its origins: as a GUI to build Eclipse. 2D graphics aren't a high priority in Eclipse, so haven't been in SWT.
 
With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
